Latest in a long line of identical kettles, 23 April 2017

This will be the third kettle of this model that I have purchased. At least, I hope it is the same as the previous ones as it has a different model number, the original of which has seemingly been discontinued. It certainly looks the same!

The first one developed a leak after seven years of use and the kettle that this one is replacing has just suffered a fused element after five years. I live in a very hard water area and have to descale the kettle regularly with diluted hydrochloric acid. Proprietary kettle descalers will not touch it. Given the that the current life expectancy of most types of white goods appears to be a few days after the two year guarantee has expired I think that seven and five years respectively represents good service for an appliance that is used up to ten times or more every day.

I hope it lives up to expectations. I shall report back if it doesn’t!

Good looking design but tea tastes of TCP, 11 April 2017

There’s no doubt this is a nice looking kettle, but after a week, and boiling it up more than fifty times (with fresh water each time) the TCP flavouring to my tea has not abated. Although the filter and lid spring are the only internal plastic parts visible, presumably chlorine in the tap water is reacting with phenols/other components leaching out of the plastic.Sadly it has to go back.Does anyone these days even make a kettle with no internal plastic to contaminate the water? Think I might have to resort to the old fashioned whistling stove-top kettle.
